Through the Landcare Enabling Program (LEP), Greater Sydney Landcare supports Local Landcare Coordinators who are based within a range of host organisations in the Greater Sydney Region. This collaborative model strengthens partnerships and amplifies the impact of Landcare across the Sydney Basin.

Hawkesbury Nepean Landcare Network is one of the host organisations, working across the region with their roaming Landcare group, the Wandering Wallabies. Local Landcare Coordinator Monique Bailey shares an introduction and her insights into the group.

Are you interested inΒ participatingΒ in Landcare activities? Then this group is for you… Wandering Wallabies Roaming Landcare Group was recently formedβ€―to encourage local communities to partake in a myriad of environmental activities across HNLN’s 4 local Government Areas (The Hills Shire, Blacktown, Penrith and Hawkesbury), no matter where you are located and no matter what your circumstances are.Β Β

A lot of people within our communities can’t afford their own land and/or live in a rental home. Some people have family, university or job commitments, that prevent them from engaging in volunteering activities due to the commitments involved!

Here’s where this group is different:

  • You can attend one event with no further commitments to volunteer if that works best for you (we aim to have volunteers come back, but it is notΒ required).Β Β
  • If there is no Landcare or bushcare group near you, this group allows you to still be involved in Landcare initiatives!Β Β
  • YouΒ don’tΒ have to sign a volunteer contract; you justΒ participateΒ within your capacity/interest levels.Β Β
  • You can bring your family along, why not have a fun day out learning new skills!Β Β
  • The events are posted on our Facebook page as they come up, if an event looks like it suits you, sign up for free!Β
  • If you have land and would like the group to come and assist/support your land management efforts, contact usΒ viaΒ landcare@wswa.nsw.gov.auΒ andΒ we’llΒ come to help you!Β Β

Some of the activities that will be offered within this group are listed below:

  • Bush regeneration working beesΒ
  • Skill building and information sessionsΒ
  • Local community eventsΒ
  • Planting eventsΒ
  • Bushcare support daysΒ and more.Β Β
