Corporate volunteering plays an important role in supporting local environments, but its greatest value is often realised when engagement extends beyond a single day. At Greater Sydney Landcare, we work with corporate partners to build long-term relationships with local Landcare groups and sites, partnerships that create meaningful, lasting outcomes for both people and place.
Rather than moving from site to site, long-term partnerships allow corporate teams to return to the same location over time and work alongside the same community volunteers. This continuity builds a deeper understanding of the landscape, from seasonal changes to the ongoing pressures facing urban bushland and waterways. Participants begin to see how small, consistent actions such as planting, weeding, monitoring and maintenance, can add up to real environmental change. As shown by our progress photos below.
These partnerships also strengthen the local Landcare groups at the heart of the work. Corporate involvement brings additional hands on the ground, but just as importantly, it brings opportunities for sustained support. Through sponsorship, corporate partners can directly support a local group or specific site, helping fund plants, tools, training and coordination. This support ensures volunteer efforts are properly resourced and that on-ground works can continue long after a volunteer day has finished.
Sponsorship creates a shared sense of responsibility. Corporate teams are not just visitors to a site—they become contributors to its long-term care. For many participants, this shift transforms the experience from a one-off activity into an ongoing connection with a place they may pass every day on the way to work or live near with their families.
To help make this impact visible, corporate partners receive personalised Impact Summaries that reflect their contribution. Highlighting the site supported, the local Landcare group involved and the environmental outcomes achieved, such as habitat restored or waterways protected. Displayed in offices or shared with staff, they provide a tangible reminder of the collective effort behind healthier landscapes and more resilient local environments. They also offer a clear, accessible way to communicate impact within sustainability and ESG reporting.
When corporate engagement is approached as a partnership, everyone benefits. Local groups gain the support they need to care for their sites, corporate teams build stronger connections to community and place, and the environment gains consistent, long-term stewardship. Beyond the volunteer day, these partnerships tell a shared story of care, commitment and growing impact.
