On 26 March, a team of 15 volunteers from ANNA Money joined Greater Sydney Landcare for a day of bush regeneration at Smiths Creek Reserve in Campbelltown
The day began with a shared lunch, allowing volunteers to connect before heading out into the field. Campbelltown Bushcare Officer, Michael Ellison, then provided an engaging introduction to the site, highlighting the importance of bush regeneration across Sydney and the ecological significance of the area.
Smiths Creek Reserve forms part of an important wildlife corridor supporting core koala habitat and threatened vegetation communities, making ongoing restoration work at the site especially important.
The site is also home to the critically endangered Shale Sandstone Transition Forest, of which only around 10% remains. Volunteers learned that protecting and restoring this habitat is essential—not only for koalas, but for the many native plants and animals that rely on this unique ecosystem.
The ANNA team spent the afternoon removing invasive weeds including fishbone fern, bridal creeper, asparagus fern and privet, helping improve conditions for native plants and wildlife. Despite humid weather and occasional downpours, the group remained committed throughout the day and helped clear a significant infestation of fishbone fern.
“It was a simple, practical way for our team to get out of the office and support an important local habitat,” said Ryan Edwards-Pritchard, CEO of ANNA Money Australia. “The Greater Sydney Landcare team made the day easy to get involved in and gave us a much better understanding of the work happening on the ground in Campbelltown.”
The day finished with afternoon tea and a guided nature walk, where volunteers learned more about the local bushland and spotted signs of koala activity nearby.
We would like to thank the Anna Money team for their hard work, enthusiasm, and contribution to conserving one of Campbelltown’s most important natural areas.
