On the 20th of March, Greater Sydney Landcare (GSL) hosted a successful corporate volunteering day along Cabramatta Creek, with a team of eight enthusiastic volunteers from Revolution Asset Management contributing to the restoration of a critically important ecosystem.
The group worked within a stretch of Cumberland Plain Blue Box River-flat Forest, a threatened ecological community that plays a vital role in supporting biodiversity and improving the health of Western Sydney’s waterways. Through hands-on action, the volunteers helped enhance this riparian corridor, contributing to long-term environmental resilience.
The day was led by Bryce Doyle, GSL’s Natural Resource Manager, with support from Environmental Field Officers Ryan Birtles and Peter Cartwright. Together, the team guided volunteers through planting techniques and shared insights into the significance of the site and the broader restoration efforts underway.
Over the course of the day, the group planted an impressive 800 native trees and shrubs. All plants were supplied in 50mm pots, making them well-suited for large-scale planting. Volunteers carefully moved aside mulch, planted each tube stock, and ensured every plant was thoroughly watered in—an essential step in promoting successful establishment, particularly in the early stages of growth.
Planting commenced at 9:30am and continued through to 2:00pm, with the group maintaining strong energy and focus throughout. The GSL team noted the volunteers’ positive attitude, teamwork, and genuine enthusiasm, which contributed to a highly productive and enjoyable day.
Volunteers were well supported with catering throughout the event. Morning tea included fruit, biscuits, cakes, crackers, and dip, while a selection of Subway sandwiches was provided for lunch, giving everyone a chance to recharge and connect during breaks.
Beyond the immediate impact of planting, the day highlighted the value of corporate volunteering in environmental conservation. By directly participating in on-ground works, volunteers gain a deeper understanding of local ecosystems while making a tangible contribution to their restoration.
GSL extends its thanks to the Revolution team for their commitment and hard work. Their efforts will leave a lasting legacy along Cabramatta Creek, helping to restore native habitat, stabilise the creekline, and support local wildlife for years to come.
