A&O Shearman Give Back to Nature

On Friday 20th June 2025, Greater Sydney Landcare welcomed a group of enthusiastic corporate volunteers from A&O Shearman for a tree planting day at Lynwood Golf and Country Club in Pitt Town, within the Hawkesbury LGA. The group of seven from A&O Shearman helped plant around 700 native trees and shrubs as part of our Creating Canopies project.

The day was led by Creating Canopies Project Officer Alicia Harb-Akins and Environmental Field Officer Kylie Burrows. Despite the chilly morning, the A&O Shearman team arrived with warm smiles and plenty of energy, ready to get stuck into the planting. Their curiosity about the species being planted and their collaborative spirit helped make the day both productive and enjoyable.

Planting for Biodiversity & Shade

The group planted a diverse mix of native vegetation, including:

• Paperbarks (Melaleucas),
• Bottlebrushes (Callistemon),
• Tick Bush (Kunzea ambigua),
• Rice Flower (Ozothamnus diosmifolius)
• Tea Tree (Leptospermum polygalifolium)

These plants will grow to three metres and above to establish a canopy, not only offering shade for golfers and improving the aesthetics of the course, but also providing valuable habitat for local birds and pollinators. Additionally, the new vegetation will help reduce noise pollution from the nearby main road.

With the hard work and efficiency of the volunteers, the planting progressed smoothly, allowing plenty of time for socialising as the day warmed up. Morning tea featured hot drinks, biscuits, and fresh fruit, while lunch included hearty sandwiches and a well-earned sugar boost to finish.

Corporate volunteering days like this are an excellent way for businesses to give back to their communities while making a tangible impact on the local environment. By supporting Landcare initiatives, corporate teams help restore bushland, expand urban canopy cover, and build resilience against climate change—all while strengthening their own team connections and wellbeing.

Growing a Greener Legacy

This planting was one of three events Greater Sydney Landcare delivered at Lynwood in 2025, building on previous efforts at the site in 2021 and 2022, where hundreds of native plants were also added to the course.
