4 Pines & Landcare Greening Sydney

On Wednesday 18th June 2025, Greater Sydney Landcare hosted a corporate volunteering day in partnership with Landcare Australia for a team from 4 Pines Brewing Co., who braved a chilly morning to help restore habitat and cool the urban environment.

Planting 600 Natives in Pitt Town

The crew of eight headed out to Lynwood Golf and Country Club in Pitt Town, located on the Hawkesbury floodplain. Their mission? Support our Creating Canopies project by planting 600 native trees and shrubs in an area with low canopy cover.

These plantings are part of our wider effort to increase tree canopy across Greater Sydney—creating much-needed shade, reducing urban heat, and supporting biodiversity.

The 4 Pines team were happy to trade their office desks for gardening gloves for a day. They embraced the opportunity to step away from laptops and screens, instead enjoying a day outdoors in the sunshine contributing to a meaningful environmental cause. Their friendly approach, careful attention to detail, and positive attitude made the planting day both productive and fun. We extend our heartfelt thanks to 4 Pines for their valuable contribution to this important habitat restoration project.

Continuing a Legacy of Care

This wasn’t the first time Creating Canopies has planted at Lynwood. Creating Canopies planted here in 2021 and 2022, where hundreds of native trees and shrubs were added to the course. While flooding impacted some areas, replanting efforts have paid off—many of the surviving trees are now thriving.

Floodplain-Friendly Species

Given the site’s location on a floodplain, for this planting we ensured we selected species suited to wetter soils, including:

• Paperbarks (Melaleucas)
• Tea Trees (Leptospermum polygalifolium)
• Bottlebrushes (Callistemons)
• Tick Bush (Kunzea ambigua)
• Rice Flower (Ozothamnus diosmifolius)

These hardy natives will grow to 3 metres and above, helping to create lasting canopy cover.

A Team Effort

After a productive morning of planting, the 4 Pines team enjoyed a well-earned lunch and returned to water in the new plantings—giving them the best chance to thrive.

This day was led by our Creating Canopies Project Manager Danielle Hughes, Natural Resources Manager Bryce Doyle, and Revegetation Officers Michael Keith and Ryan Birtles, and supported by a representative from Landcare Australia.

Brewing Better with Landcare

4 Pines Brewing Co. is a proud corporate partner of Landcare Australia. Since 2020, they’ve supported multiple restoration projects as part of their commitment to “Brew Better.” This day at Pitt Town marks another milestone in their ongoing contribution to a healthier, more resilient environment.
