Meet the Greater Sydney Landcare team
Regional and Local Landcare Coordinators
Regional and Local Landcare Coordinators play a vital role in enabling and coordinating community Landcare groups and other environmental organisations. They empower Landcare groups to achieve their goals in alignment with program objectives and they support participation in Landcare by individuals and groups.
Greater Sydney Landcare currently employs Regional and Local Landcare Coordinators with funding from the NSW Landcare Enabling Program – a collaboration of Local Land Services and Landcare NSW supported by the NSW Government.
Alicia Harb-Akins
Regional Landcare Coordinator
Alicia joined Greater Sydney Landcare in 2024 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Conservation Biology. As a key member of the Creating Canopies team, she contributed to the successful delivery of a major tree-planting program that saw 309,637 native trees planted across Greater Sydney between 2020 and 2025. Creating Canopies was delivered as part of the NSW Government-funded Greening our City initiative.
Vanessa Gimellaro
Local Landcare Coordinator - Macarthur
Vanessa is based in Macarthur and works in koala education and habitat restoration across Campbelltown, Camden, and Wollondilly. Vanessa obtained a Bachelor of Natural Resources Management at Southern Cross University and runs the Buxton Landcare, which meets on the 4th Thursday of every month.
Karen Cook
Landcare Coordinator (Indigenous Identified)
Karen joined Greater Sydney Landcare in 2026 and is working to raise First Nations cultural knowledge across GSL’s environmental conservation and community engagement programs.
Danielle Hughes
Project Manager
Danielle Hughes has had 4 years of project management experience undertaking numerous Landcare and other environmental projects with Greater Sydney Landcare, and Cattai Hills Environment Network. She has also worked for Ecohort, a bush regeneration company, and completed a bachelor’s degree in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security.
Being enthusiastic about making environmental education a priority for the community and connecting them to nature through conservation works and other citizen science activities, she believes we can create a more sustainable future for generations to come.
Bryce Doyle
Natural Resources Manager
Bryceย has 15 yearsโ experience working throughout the broader horticultural industry as a Bush Regenerator, Bushcare Supervisor, Landscape Designer and managing a Landscaping business. He also has completed a Certificate 3 in Conservation and Land Management, Diploma in Landscape Design and is currently studying a Diploma in Conservation and Ecosystem Management. Bryceโs extensive experience has seen him work in many of Sydneyโs unique landscapes and hopes to use his expertise to help educate local communities to regenerate Sydneyโs amazing and diverse natural ecosystems.
Peter Cartwright
Environmental Field Officer
Peter is an experienced bush regenerator with expertise in restoring wildlife corridors. Heย was born and raised in Riverstone, a bushland suburb on the edge of the Hawkesbury, where a lifelong passion for nature and reptiles first took root. Inspired from an early age by his Pop and Grandpa, he developed a deep connection to the bush and a strong appreciation for Australiaโs unique ecosystems. Today, Peter is driven by a simple but meaningful goal: to inspire others to develop a lasting love and respect for the natural world.
Streamwatch Team
Streamwatch is a citizen science water monitoring program that enables community groups to monitor the quality and health of local waterways.
Mark Secombe
Streamwatch Manager
Mark has two decades of experience in horticulture and environmental education. Mark has developed and delivered syllabus-based environmental education programs for K-12 students, for subjects where water quality monitoring is a focus, including Science, Biology, and Geography.
Mark has also provided environmental education to volunteers from a range of diverse backgrounds and sectors. Mark previously held roles as Visitor Programs Coordinator – Education at Centennial Parklands, and as Environmental Education Coordinator at Sydney Olympic Park.
Laura Fazio-Nagy
Streamwatch Officer - Southeast Schools
Laura is passionate about conservation and caring for the environment, with a deep respect for Indigenous knowledges, cultures and practices. She recently graduated with a Bachelor of Biodiversity and Conservation, majoring in Indigenous Studies.
With a strong commitment to caring for land, Lauraโs passion lies in engaging in meaningful collaboration with Indigenous peoples, understanding ecosystem dynamics, and supporting the conservation of vulnerable species. She also has experience in science communication and is driven to engage communities in inclusive conversations around wildlife and plant ecology and supporting a sustainable future.

All three projects are crucial to improving habitat and land conservation across the Greater Sydney region.
Xuela Sledge
Cumberland Plain Restoration Program Manager I Private Land Conservation Officer
Xuela has over twenty years experience in conservation that has mostly involved working with the community. She has been with Greater Sydney Landcare since March 2016 (but who’s counting…) and currently works on a number of projects for GSL:
1. Cumberland Plain Restoration Program (SOS funding)

Eli Stead
South-west Sydney Koala Project Officer
Eli brings over seven years of experience in bush regeneration and ecological restoration, with a strong focus on the Hawkesbury River region. Holding a Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management, Eli has worked extensively in bioremediation and the restoration of koala habitat across the Hawkesbury and Greater Wollondilly areas. Passionate about preserving natural corridors and supporting threatened species, Eli is committed to connecting local communities with the bushland around them through hands-on koala conservation and habitat regeneration.
Corporate Engagement Team
Corporate volunteering provides an opportunity for businesses and their employees to get involved in their local community and contribute to environmental conservation efforts, which can strengthen community ties and promote social responsibility.
Sabina Roe
Corporate Engagement Manager
Passionate about ecological restoration and community-driven conservation, Sabina is dedicated to protecting and enhancing natural ecosystems through collaboration and education.
She holds a Bachelor of Natural Science (Conservation Biology) and a Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management. She has also volunteered with wildlife rescue and bush regeneration groups across Sydney, gaining hands-on experience in conservation. With five years of experience in bush regeneration, she has developed a deep understanding of the Sydney Basinโs diverse vegetation communities. She has led large-scale revegetation, creekline restoration, and habitat reconstruction projects, as well as coordinated Local Bushcare groups within the City of Parramatta.
Having grown up with grandparents in the farming industry, Sabina understands the vital role of local knowledge and community involvement in conservation. She is committed to fostering strong partnerships and providing the resources and support needed to empower communities in protecting and restoring their local environments.

These staff members support Greater Sydney Landcare’s events and conservation work on a casual basis.
Kylie Burrows
Environmental Restoration Officer
Kylie has a background in bush regeneration/ecological restoration and community engagement, with strong skills in native and exotic plant identification. She has worked on Country in a variety of Plant Community Types including – Cumberland Plain Woodland, Sydney Turpentine-Ironbark Forest, Sydney Sandstone Foreshore, and Swamp Oak Floodplain with a special interest in conservation of Coastal Saltmarsh.
She also has commercial nursery experience (native and landscape species) undertaking native plant propagation and native seed collection.
For six years she was the Bushcare Team Leader at an inner-city Sydney Council located on the Parramatta (Burramattagal) River and was responsible for management of the Bushcare volunteer program and natural areas contracts. She is skilled at building strong community relationships and encourages responsible environmental custodianship and knowledge sharing. Urban ecology and biodiversity are her hot topics.Kylie is continually developing an Indigenist and decolonisation standpoint.
