It’s 2025 and after working on the Greater Sydney Landcare Strategic Plan I have been reflecting on Landcare and what makes Landcare special. At its heart, I believe Landcare is defined by three key components:
- Respect
- Passion
- Willingness to give
Every landcarer, bushcarer, and environmentalist I meet shares an immense respect for one another, the environment, and our native flora and fauna. Whether working in groups or individually, we are united by a shared passion and a collective commitment to helping nature become more resilient and thrive.
As volunteers, we give countless hours of energy and dedication, often without seeking acknowledgment or reward—a testament to the generosity that defines our community. Thank you everyone for your time and dedication, and we look forward to another impactful year together.
I would like to congratulate Pamela Ward and Anthony Butteriss for being nominees for the Environmental Citizen of the Year at the City of Ryde’s 2025 awards! Greater Sydney Landcare extends its heartfelt thanks for your outstanding dedication and invaluable contributions to conservation.
Looking ahead, we are excited to announce the upcoming Greater Sydney Regional Landcare Forum and Awards, which Greater Sydney Landcare will host in May in partnership with Greater Sydney Local Land Services. This biennial event celebrates the extraordinary achievements of groups and individuals who exemplify the Landcare spirit. Over the next few months, we’ll be seeking nominations for these awards, with winners going on to represent Greater Sydney at the NSW State Landcare Awards.
I encourage all of you to reflect on the incredible work happening across our region and consider nominating a group or individual who inspires you. Let’s continue to celebrate the extraordinary contributions that make our Landcare community so unique.
Best wishes for 2025,
Bev Debrincat,
Chair, Greater Sydney Landcare
