On 24th May 2025, Greater Sydney Landcare’s Streamwatch team held its latest Streamwatch Quality Assurance (QA) Day. It’s a valuable opportunity to support and reconnect with the dedicated volunteers who monitor the health of local waterways across Greater Sydney.

QA Day plays an essential role in maintaining the consistency and reliability of water quality data collected by Streamwatch groups. This time, we offered two ways to participate: by visiting the Greater Sydney Landcare office in person, or by receiving a QA pack in the post. Groups were invited to test their kits and check results using known-value solutions for key parameters including dissolved oxygen, phosphates, turbidity, and pH.

It was fantastic to welcome participants into the office, some for the first time and others we’ve known for years. These face-to-face visits gave us a chance to handle technical issues, answer questions, and share updates over a cuppa.

At Quality Assurance Day 2025, volunteers used multiple reference solutions to check and calibrate their water testing equipment, ensuring the accuracy of their monitoring efforts

This QA Day was proudly supported by Waterwatch NSW through a grant funded by the NSW Government. This support has helped us distribute more kits into the community and ensure that our volunteers are equipped to collect high-quality, reliable data.

We’re always impressed by the care and commitment our Streamwatch groups show. Thanks to your efforts, we’re building a robust picture of waterway health across the region – and QA Days like this ensure the data you collect remains accurate and meaningful.

A big thank you to everyone who took part. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
